Stuck in Mexico without money or friends, Shelby throws in her lot with Paco. However, the notorious coyote, El Oso, contacts Shelby's father and demands a ransom for her safe return. Shelby's father agrees, but hires a professional killer and an expert Indian tracker to hunt them down.
They all inexorably come together in the brutal terrain of the Arizona desert, where danger lurks, water is scarce, and a well-made pair of shoes can make the difference between survival and death.
